Advocate Edwards qualified with a BA (Hons) LLB from the University of Natal in 1988. He was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa on 4 November 1991. He served his period of pupillage and passed the General Bar Examination in 1992.  With twenty three (23) years experience in the legal field, Advocate Edwards has practised law as both Advocate and State Prosecutor in South Africa and the United Kingdom. 

Between 1989 and 1992 Advocate Edwards served as State Prosecutor and later Control State Prosecutor in the District of Inanda in KwaZulu-Natal. This period was characterised by serious political violence and unrest in South Africa prior to the new dispensation and change in 1994 and the District of Inanda was one of the worst affected areas due to the Inkatha and ANC confrontations in the province involving numerous murders, attempted murders, kidnapping, intimidation, acts of terrorism and firearm offences.

As a practising Advocate of the High Court of South Africa, Advocate Edwards regularly exercises the rights of audience in the Magistrates and High Courts throughout the Republic of South Africa including the Supreme Court of Appeal acting on the instructions of duly admitted attorneys of the High Court of South Africa. He has conducted numerous civil and criminal litigation cases in the Magistrates Courts, Regional Magistrates Courts and High Courts throughout the Republic of South Africa including reported judgments in respect of civil and criminal cases.

Civil and criminal appearances have included applications, reviews, trials, and appeals at the highest level in all Courts. Advocate Edwards exercised rights of audience in the Labour Court of South Africa and the Labour Appeal Court being the highest Court in South Africa in respect of labour matters. He has advanced knowledge and experience on practice, procedure and evidence in respect of civil and criminal law, providing opinions, advices on evidence, pleadings and all other types of legal writing including contracts of all types such as partnership agreements, joint ventures, cessions and pledges, purchase and sale of businesses and movable and immovable property, agreements iro intellectual property, computer contracts, copyright and franchise. Specialist knowledge and advanced experience in criminal law, insurance law, and personal injury law. He has advanced knowledge and experience in banking law, cessions and assignments, securities, companies, contracts, statutory law interpretation, trade marks and unlawful passing off, credit agreements, mortgage and notarial bonds, medical negligence and negligence, trusts, administrative law, employment law, corporate law, insolvency and property law, partnerships.
