CIVIL MATTERSMagistrates’ Court
Pleadings
Including all necessary consultations and perusal of relevant documentation, particulars of claim, plea, exception, special plea or similar such pleadings: R1 500-00.
Applications
Drawing/settling application papers, including founding affidavits, answering affidavits, and replying affidavits: R3 000-00.
Opposed appearance: R3 000-00.
Unopposed appearance: R1 000-00.
Urgent and semi-urgent: R4 500-00.
Trials
Including all necessary consultations and preparations related thereto:
1st day - R4 500-00; 2nd day and each day thereafter - R3 000-00.
The tariffs listed below are general guidelines and may change without prior notice. Counsel tariffs vary between civil and criminal matters and is dependent upon traveling expenses. Although Advocate Edwards is based in Durban, Counsel attends to matters nationally. Please contact Advocate Edwards for current rates.

Notes
1. Payment by EFT is encouraged by attorneys to counsel’s bank account indicated on the fee note rendered.
2. Counsel was duly admitted to practise on the 4th of November 1991.
3. The tariff is a guideline only to attorneys as to counsel’s usual fees chargeable for the type of services indicated and the general rule that counsel’s fees shall be reasonable applies.
4. The duty is upon the attorney to secure counsel’s fees prior to counsel being briefed and the instructing attorney undertakes to pay counsel’s fees.
5. Fees are due and payable upon completion of the specified service provided and an appropriate fee note rendered.
6. Services which are extraordinarily complex and/ or voluminous in nature will be charged on an agreed fee basis and attorneys are encouraged to raise this issue with counsel prior to delivery of the brief.
7. Counsel shall endeavour to return simple pleadings within 72 hours of delivery of a completed brief.
